The role of the Chief Data Officer (CDO) or Data Manager is to oversee and manage the data strategy of a company or organisation. He or she is a company's "Chief Data Officer". Main Responsibilities

The tasks of the Chief Data Officer are varied.

First of all, he or she must define the company's data strategy. He or she is also responsible for data collection, storage, analysis and protection.

It is up to the IT department to establish data management policies and procedures to ensure that the company's data is collected and stored securely and efficiently. This may include creating rules for data use, identifying data management responsibilities and defining how long data should be retained.

  • In-depth knowledge of databases and data visualisation tools: the CDO must have in-depth knowledge of relational, NoSQL and Big Data databases, as well as skills in SQL, PL/SQL and other query languages. They must have a working knowledge of data visualisation tools such as Tableau, QlikView, Power BI, etc.
  • Data analysis skills: the Chief Data Officer must have solid experience in data analysis, including predictive analysis, descriptive analysis and prescriptive analysis.
  • IT and security skills: the CDO must have a working knowledge of information technology, including operating systems, networks, IT security, etc.
  • Knowledge of data regulations: the CDO must have a solid understanding of data regulations such as the RGPD, CCPA, etc.
