Main Responsibilities
The tasks of the Chief Data Officer are varied.
First of all, he or she must define the company's data strategy. He or she is also responsible for data collection, storage, analysis and protection.
It is up to the IT department to establish data management policies and procedures to ensure that the company's data is collected and stored securely and efficiently. This may include creating rules for data use, identifying data management responsibilities and defining how long data should be retained.
It oversees the design and implementation of the company's data architecture, which may involve creating databases, defining data models and ensuring information quality.
The CDO must ensure that the organisation in which he or she works is able to analyse and use its data effectively. This may include identifying the most appropriate data analysis tools and technologies for the business and overseeing data analysis by employees.
Of course, the CDO must oversee the security of the company's data, including the implementation of measures to prevent data breaches and cyber-attacks. The CDO must also ensure that the company's data is stored in accordance with the applicable regulations and security standards.
