Data Scientist

Role overview

Working in the Big Data environment, the Data Scientist is a professional with a mastery of data science. They use machine learning, statistical and modelling techniques to transform data into usable information. In effect, the Data Scientist is an engineer in the analysis of large quantities of data to help solve complex problems within the company. They often work in close collaboration with the Data Analyst and the company's decision-makers. They provide useful, actionable information to business experts (finance, digital marketing, etc.) and other IT professionals within the company. Among other things, this enables process improvement opportunities to be identified and informed strategic decisions to be made based on data. It therefore helps the company to remain competitive in a constantly changing business environment.

In general, the Data Scientist is responsible for creating predictive models and interpreting the results within the company. They are involved in the design and development of data-driven solutions such as automated analysis tools or decision-making algorithms.

  • Mastery of statistical and IT tools (Access, Excel, etc.): the Data Scientist must be able to discern useful information from a flow of information. Knowledge of web analysis tools such as Google Analytics and Omniture is also an essential skill.
  • Proficiency in various programming languages (Java, C++, Python, SQL, etc.) and machine learning (automatic learning algorithms).
  • Mastery of the Hadoop and Spark environment: the ability to handle massive data and process it using tools such as Hadoop and Spark is also essential for a data scientist. Knowledge of big data is therefore a significant plus.

  • 5-year university degree in computer science, mathematics or statistics. This diploma can be obtained through engineering or business schools.
  • Training at Master's level (Bac +4/5) in data science or Big Data is also sufficient
  • Certifications in artificial intelligence or significant professional experience in the IT field
