Financial Controller

Role Overview

The Financial Controller is a key figure in the finance department, responsible for the accuracy of financial reporting, accounting operations, and internal controls. Reporting to the Finance Director or CFO, they ensure that the company’s financial processes are efficient, compliant, and aligned with strategic goals.

The Financial Controller provides critical financial data, oversees the preparation of financial statements, leads month-end and year-end closings, and ensures fiscal discipline. They play a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity of financial information and supporting audits, compliance, and process optimization.

Main Responsibilities

The Financial Controller supervises accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and fixed assets. They coordinate the closing process, ensuring deadlines are met and results are accurately reflected.

They manage statutory and internal financial reporting, reconcile balance sheets, and maintain accounting documentation in compliance with local and international standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP).

The Financial Controller ensures that tax filings are accurate and submitted on time, and acts as the main point of contact for external auditors. They work on improving internal controls, identifying inefficiencies, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and financial regulations.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • Professional certifications such as CPA, CA, or ACCA are strongly preferred
  • 5–10 years of experience in accounting or controlling, ideally in an international environment
