HSE Engineer

Role overview

The HSE Engineer is responsible for managing a company's safety, health and environment (HSE). Main Responsibilities

The HSE Engineer's job is to ensure the health and safety of employees within a company. They have a number of important tasks, such as implementing a strict safety policy to reduce accidents in the workplace and ensuring that safety instructions are followed. They also ensure that installations are reliable, to guarantee the safety of employees. To do this, they carry out regular inspections to detect any risks and implement the appropriate preventive measures. They often draw up reports on the company's HSE performance, which they pass on to management.

The HSE Engineer develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance. He or she ensures that new regulations are kept up to date and applied within the company. In addition, he/she organises HSE-focused training programmes for employees to raise awareness of good health, safety and environmental practices.

The HSE Engineer manages investigations in the event of workplace accidents or environmental incidents and draws up emergency and business continuity plans in the event of unforeseen events.

  • Knowledge of prevention techniques: HSE Engineers must have in-depth technical knowledge of accident prevention, environmental protection and waste management.
  • Mastery of audit techniques: the HSE Engineer is responsible for carrying out internal audits relating to health, safety and the environment. Their objective is to ensure that regulatory compliance is respected within the company and that preventive measures are effective.
  • In-depth knowledge of legal concepts relating to health, safety and the environment: as an HSE Engineer, this skill is fundamental to ensuring legal compliance, employee safety and environmental protection.
  • A good understanding of the Labour Code: mastery of the Labour Code enables the HSE Engineer to identify gaps in the company's existing policies and procedures. This skill also helps in the implementation of employee training on occupational health and safety issues.
