The position of Patent & Property Manager is an important one in the management of a company's intellectual property. The role of this specialist is to protect the company's patents, trademarks and copyrights.
Tasks may include searching and analysing existing patents, drafting patent applications and managing litigation. This executive is also responsible for setting up processes for the development of an innovation. They provide advice and seek information.
The Patent Manager ensures that the company's intellectual assets are used efficiently and profitably. To this end, they work closely with the R&D departments, the legal department, the management team, etc.
The Patent & Intellectual Property Manager manages relations with external partners, such as specialist lawyers. He or she is particularly involved in technology transfers.
It maintains liaison with government agencies, international organisations such as WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation), and patent offices such as the EPO (European Patent Office). He or she ensures that the company benefits from all the advantages of these partnerships. The Patent & Property Manager may also work as a consultant or on a permanent contract for these organisations.
